Super Famicom (SNES) Assorted Japanese Box Art

Brutal: Paws of Fury / Animal Raging Battle Story – Brutal
Released to mediocre reviews at the tail end (no pun intended) of the 2D fighting game craze, Brutal: Paws of Fury still possessed some charm based on its premise alone. As you an see, the box art was awesome as well.

Dungeon Master

Developed in San Diego, this innovate late 80s first person dungeon crawler was quite a sensation internationally, even being ported to the Super Famicom.

The decisive edition of the real time RPG.

This is the real time RPG that has taken the world by storm.

3D dungeons unfold as you venture through the deep maze. Your brains and courage will be tested as you encounter a number of traps. Your party will suddenly be attacked by monsters. And of course, within the game system, the player's thinking and actions will have real time consequences. Thrills and excitement like you've never experienced until now await!

Gdleen
While there's very little to translate, Gdleen has some amazing packaging artwork and holds the distinction of being the first JRPG released on the system legendary for the genre.

New life, RPG.

Go Go Ackman

That little devil sure looks like Trunks from DBZ. None of the Go Go Ackman games were localized for America. In an era deluged by mascot platformers, this one would have stood out with it's excellent graphics and overall craziness.

All of those who get in my way while gathering souls, I'm comin' after ya!!!

(Caption) Angel vs. Devil in a big, slapstick adventure! GO GO!!

Lemmings
Originally developed for the Amiga, Lemmings is someone the pre-cursor to Nintendo's Pikmin. Back when I was reading about this game in Nintendo Power, I had no clue the Lemming was an actual rodent.

Action Puzzle Game

Here's something to challenge your wits!! Help the legendary little rats, the "Lemmings," head off on a big adventure!!

The "Lemmings" are the stars of this game, but they are not able to use their own judgement when assessing danger. Despite traps, cliffs and oceans, they're just dead set on moving ahead, regardless of the surroundings. For the sake of these "Lemmings", please use all your brains, as well as tools and abilities you've been given to safely guide them to the goal.

Besides the one-player game, there's also a two-player game where you and a friend can have fun battling.

Out of  This World / Another World / Outer World
Known in Japan as Outer World, it got the PC's more mature cover in line with the game's tone compared to the cartoony cover in North America. The game seems to play rather clunky, but along with Flashback on the Mega Drive it made some waves for how the graphics were able to mimic traditional animation.

The first Super Famicom game to utilize polygonal animation!

One stormy night, physicist Lester Knight Chaykin stopped by the laboratory to begin one of his usual experiments. His own carelessness led to a huge explosion among the experimenting devices, engulfing him. Then...regaining consciousness, his eyes came upon something no one else has seen, Another World. In order to return to his original world, Lester must attempt a frantic escape.

An adventure action game making broad use of current polygonal technology. With smooth scrolling, close-ups, (scene) switching, zoom-in and other cinematic techniques, each step brings you to one of the many puzzles which have been set up. The player will experience brand new thrills not seen until now.

Populous
Really eye popping box art by David John Rowe. Reading about this game in Nintendo Power, I remember being very intimidates to try it, similar to Sim City. In the American Super Nintendo release, references to God were replaced by a single mention of "Supreme Being".

The land, sea and world come alive with a grand splendor. Will humans...ever be able to surpass God!?

As the player, your mission is take on the  omnipotent powers of God...
As God, you watch over Earth from the Heavens, bringing forth various miracles, battling evil and working to unify humanity.

In the Super Famicom version of Populous, 4 original worlds have been added, including Edo Japan and the French Revolution for a total of 10 Populous Worlds.

As God the Almighty, will you be able to rule over every world? And finally, will you be able to win the honor of being 'God among the Gods'?

(Left caption) While watching over people as God, you'll continually be engaged in battle.
(Center caption) God's miracles include setting off Earthquakes, calling forth floods and creating volcanos.
(Right caption) The cookie house, created by mice. One of the unique worlds of the game.

Rival Turf / Rushing Beat
Dramatically different box arts here! The M. Bison look-a-like certainly would have got Jaleco in some trouble with Capcom in America, assuming they weren't upset over in Japan as it is. Interest that the reference to stopping a drug cartel was removed from the US packaging despite D.A.R.E. being in full effect in the early 90s.

An authentic fighting action game.

A simultaneous, 2-player authentic fighting action game finally appears!! Sparks scatter, as police officer Rick and former pro-wrestler Douglas take on an organization smuggling illegal stimulants!!

Sim City
This PC port received heavy collaboration with Nintendo of Japan. Not only is Bowser in the game destroying cities Kaijuu style, Dr. Wright, based on creator Will Wright went on to become a character in Link's Awakening.

Sim City
City Growth Simulation

Within America, Sim City was the chief recipient of the following awards:

*Best Entertainment Program of the Year
*Best Educational Program of the Year
*Best Simulation Program of the Year
*Best Consumer Program of the Year
(1989 Software Publication Association Picks)

Sim City went on sale for personal computers in 1989, going on to be the recipient of a number of awards. Furthermore, presently this real time simulation game is now a hit amongst all types of personal computers.

The player, acting as the mayor, creates a town in an area previously without people. While keeping your ear open to the discontent and grumbling of the citizens, you'll also have to keep your eyes on many facets such as business, traffic, public safety and disasters, or else your town won't develop.

The Super Famicom version of Sim City has been arranged to be even more fun and interesting. Are YOU up to the accepting the challenge of "creating this 'miniature garden'"?

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys

Originally released on Japanese PCs in the late 80s, I've never played any of the Ys games, but this one has a heat pumping soundtrack thanks to Mieko Ishikawa.

With the Super Famicom, life has been breathed into Ys III!

Adol runs! Adol flies! Adol FIGHTS! With the "SUPER" (Famicom), 'Super' intensity has been added to all the graphics, action and sound!
