Capcom Marvel Games

X-Men: Children of the Atom (Sega Saturn)

I have many fond memories of enjoying this at several arcades upon release and being blown away by how far 2D graphics had advanced. While not quite arcade perfect, the Saturn port was quite solid. The PS1 version of the other hand, was plagued by problems and delays, to the degree that it didn't even release in Japan. As of this writing in early 2024, I'm still hoping Capcom can muster up a Marvel collection for modern systems.

It's no longer a time for mere fighting, this has become a battle of life or death!!

* Control the X-Men characters as YOU desire! Excitement and thrills!

* Well-polished and detailed graphics! With this sense of realism, the apex of fighting game graphics has been raised higher!

* With an amazing number of patterns (frames), it's as life itself has been breathed into the characters, making for fascinating battles!

* An explosion of Super Powers (X Powers)! Charge your gauge to clone yourself, fly or increase your speed!

* On the ground or even mid-air, you can unleash a barrage of attacks. Be on the lookout for a chance moment!

* The outcome isn't known until the end of the fight. With your 'aura' at full power, use your super ability (Hyper X) to turn the tables!

* Utilize the super simple auto-guard system! Even beginners can quickly get into the "X World"!

Spine card:
In response to the enthusiastic support, America's No.1 most popular heroes appear on the Saturn!

X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
Shortly after being floored by the amazing sprite work in Children of the Atom, I was pleasantly surprised to see Capcom somewhat replicate that style of graphics on the SNES. This beat-em-up is quite a thrill with huge, colorful characters and high energy soundtrack similar to Mega Man X.

Defeat evil...with the power of justice! These are the new generation of heroes, the X-Men!

Among the 'mutants,' those born with special abilities, there are a chosen group of warriors known as the X-Men. Aiming to co-exist along with the rest of humanity, the topple evil with the power of justice.

Marvel Super Heroes
The follow-up to X-Men: COTA expanded into the entire Marvel Universe. Besides major players like Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America, there were also some real odd choices such as Shuma-Gorath and Blackheart.

Saturn Spine Card:
The extreme evolution to fighting action is now....completely resurrected!

Back
The popular American comic heroes have assembled!
In this dream hyper battle, the excitement of the arcade is now resurrected!

* Our common idea of fighting games has changed, as the super heroes battle it out!
* Take back the mysterious stones, the 'Infinity Gems'! Attack the enemies with 6 different powers!
* Limitless possibilities are hidden in the battle system.  [Downed Enemy Attacks], [Infinity Counter', [Down Evasion]. Utilize all of these to survive!
* 10 heroes overflowing with individuality. [Flight], [Mid-Air Dash], [Super Recovery], [Life Force Absorption], [Super Armor]...
Make 120% use of these granted abilities...and the sky's the limit to the havoc you can cause all over the screen!

Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems
Somewhat obscure being such a late SNES release, War of the Gems is a spiritual sequel to Mutant Apocalypse, boasting a playable cast similar to the recent Marvel Super Heroes fighter. I was much too preoccupied with my new Nintendo 64 when this released in 1996, but hopefully Capcom can get it out on consoles again one day.

In order to protect peace throughout the universe, these American Super Heroes have assembled!

Captain America, Spider Man, the super human Hulk... with all of America wildly enthusiastic about these multiple generations of super heroes, they're finally assembled onto the world of the Super Famicom. In order to save the world, and the whole universe from danger, now is the time they unleash the power of justice!

X-Men vs. Street Fighter (PS1)
Rouge, Gambit and Sabretooth join Cammy in this legendary 1996 cross-over. A nervously anticipated port for PlayStation owners, it was considered surprisingly decent, but the arcade's signature tag feature was only available by using two of the same player.

A huge revolution for fighting games!
A dynamic game system!

- Capcom has taken two of their popular fighters (X-Men, Street Fighter) and created a radical fusion! An original versus fighting game for the PlayStation!

A new system has been built in! Explosively invigorating! (Hyper Cancels), Surging Recovery! (Recovery Gauge System) Also, a magnificent closing act (Aerial Dawn) now heats up the action!

Beginner player support! Use auto-mode with automatic guard. You can also drive aerial raves into the opponent with simple, 2 button controls!

X-Men vs. Street Fighter (Saturn)
Back in the days before GameStop, I was able to purchase one of my first imports at Electronics Boutique at the mall. A real treat for beleaguered Saturn owners, the game looked nearly identical to the blinding action of the arcade game and featured hardly any discernible load times thanks to the expansion cartridge.
