Legend of the Mystical Ninja, The / Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyūshutsu Emaki Manual

Enjoy this manual translation which is vastly different from what we got in America. Legend of the Mystical Ninja holds a special place in my heart. In a way, it was the first "next generation" game I experienced with the 16-bit systems to due it's tremendous variety, culture shock and moody locales.

Story
The always peaceful Hagure Village, located within Japan's outskirts, is where Goemon and his friends reside. Both he and Ebisumaru, the self-proclaimed 'Ninja', have discreetly settled in as the heads of the town.

Lately, there's been a rumor of a beautiful ghost woman who has emerged from Horohoro Temple, located in the Northern outskirts of town.

Then, one day...

"Mr. Goemon, did you hear about this?!" yelled Ebisumaru as he stormed into Goemon's house.
"What the heck! I wasn't expecting you...," replied Goemon.

Ebisumaru: " That beautiful woman we've been hearing about...do you know what she did?!"
Goemon: "Ah, the ghost lady of Horohoro Temple..."
Ebisumaru: "Yeah, that's who! If you try making a pass at her, it will turn out to be a bad move..."
Goemon: "Cut it out!  Of course it's bad if someone of the Spirit World gets involved with a human, you fat idiot!
Ebisumaru: "Around here, I am the one and only Playboy!..."
Goemon: "We don't have time for this nonsense! Let's get going, Ebisumaru."

Instantly, Goemon takes his pipe and heads out. "Hey, I still gotta get my head into this," said Ebisumaru as he followed behind Goemon. And thus, again, with an unexpected occurrence having fallen upon these two, it seems that an adventure has begun for the third time...

The World's Golden Combination

Goemon and Ebisumaru

Goemon
Hot tempered and quick to get in a fight...introducing the dandy of these lands, Mr. Goemon!

Ebisumaru
Living life at his own pace, but a bit of a dunce...the charming Ebisumaru.

Goemon and Ebisumaru have set off to go seek out the Ghost Lady. If they see someone's in trouble, they can't just leave them be! Through and through, the spirit of the true Edo citizen is to be of assistance to others. When Princess Yuki of Edo Castle goes missing, they're the ones wrapped up in dealing with it!

So where ever could Princess Yuki be? Does an army of masked men have something to do with it? Ok! ONCE AGAIN, Goemon and Ebisumaru begin a huge quest throughout all of Japan! Leeett's GO!

Guidelines

"Strange things have been happening since getting involved with Princess Yuki's disappearance! Wherever we go, the smell of a strange plot lurks in the air! What's written down here is stuff you'll absolutely need to know on your trip! ....Hey! Ebisumaru! How about you stop stuffing your face and try learning something!"

(Ebisumaru Caption) Eh! What is it?

* The game screen gets divided in two ways. Town scenes take place on a slanted overhead view point, while action scenes are made up of true horizontal scrolling. Town scenes are full of mazes, restaurants and more. You can also seek out information.

* If you run into or get hit by enemies, your life will decrease. If you completely run out of life or the timer reaches zero, you'll lose a player. If your remaining players reach zero, it's game over.

* Go after the enemies with ferocity and earn koban! Besides koban, items will also pop out of enemies.

* Money you've earned can be used to prepare for challenges by buying armor to equip. Power yourself up! If you pick up a beckoning cat, your attack power will increase. Also, if you equip armor purchased at stores, the damage you receive will be decreased.

* Equip Jutsu (Special Attacks)! You can use powerful, fierce attacks in the action scenes. Somewhere in the towns are dojos, that if you attend will allow you to use a Jutsu move once for every 10 scrolls you've collected.

* Two players can cooperate! The action scenes are full of powerful enemies! You can start the game in two player or play alone and have someone come help you.
