Course 2 - バッタンキングの砦 > バッタンキングのとりで > Battan kingu no toride > 'WHOMP' King's Fortress
This is called "Whomp's Fortress" in the US version. When first playing the game, all the craziness and higher difficulty encountered in this stage was possibly even more enjoyable than Bomb-Omb Battle Field. The Japanese title is simple, but with a somewhat advanced Kanji.
1. バッタンキング > Battankingu > WHOMP King
バッタン (Battan) means "With a thump," which is Whomp’s Japanese name. Notice how the ッ is used once again to lengthen the "t" pronunciation. As the giant Whomp attempts to literally fall on Mario face first, his name is quite appropriate. King is simply pronounced キング (Ki-n-gu)
2. の > No > Indicates possession
The の acts as “Fortress OF the Whomp King.” It's still a thrill to avoid his crashing face with a backwards somersault followed by a hip drop to his vulnerable backend.
3. 砦 > とりで > Toride > Fortress
Here's the first Kanji outside of the more regular, general use characters. 此 has many meanings, including: this, current, next coming, last, past. Meanwhile 石 is a depiction of a stone. They combine to mean Fortress.
With some comparatively easier grammatical structure than past stages, hopefully this phrase was easily learned and evidence of your growing familiarity with the language.
The complete phrase adds up to: バッタンキングの砦 > バッタンキングのとりで > Battan kingu no toride > 'WHOMP' King's Fortress
