F-Zero games from 1990-2004

F-Zero

This Super Famicom launch title boasted fantastic, colorful American comic-book style artwork, while the US packaging used a standard format. The American F-Zero having a neat comic in the manual at least. I dug the line that implies the new Super Famicom technology is so incredible, it can transmit events from the future.

Go from '1' to 'ZERO' in the racing game from the future!

The date is 2560. Resembling the F-1 Races that used to take place on Earth, people of the future have been sucked into the craze of the inter-planetary Grand Prix known as F-Zero. The game is centered around 4 rivals, as battles across 15 circuits unfold over 9 cities and even various planets in the 26th century fight, F-ZERO. These events are able to "reappear" with the technology of the Super Famicom, so even people of the 20th century can now participate!

F-Zero X
The Japanese cover of F-Zero X puts even more emphasis on the characters than the vehicles, which had full spotlight on the American cover. The back text is full of the aggressive marketing associated with America during the 1990s.

Those 'speed maniacs' have made their return! The peculiarities of all the odd characters scatter like fireworks over the 3D circuits! Be awestruck by the intensity! Experience wide-eyed astonishment at the overwhelming sense of speed! Also, white hot battles unfold between 30 'Hyper Machines'! Now, the race game is heads towards it's peak. Try it out for an ADRENELINE EXPLOSION!

F-Zero X Expansion Kit
Rather than the originally promised URA Zelda, Earthbound 64, or Super Mario 64 2, the F-Zero Expansion Kit wound up being the premier piece of software for the much hyped 64DD add-on. Developed for the serious F-Zero enthusiast, the packaging is rather bare and no non-sense. Reminds me of the Lego Technic boxes I was too nervous to attempt as a kid.

Front:
This disk expands the functions of the F-Zero X software. Without F-Zero X, the disk will not start. (For those without it, please first purchase the F-Zero X N64 cartridge.)

Back:
Design a course the will put the pros to shame. You set the stage of the super high speed battle! "Just the courses given are not enough to race on," "I want to create my own original machine". For those F-Zero experts, we've sent the F-Zero X Expansion Kit, to be used in conjunction with the F-Zero X cartridge software.

[Create a machine] and [Course Edit] are two new modes which have been added. Particularly notable, [Course Edit] mode is roughly the same as the official tool used by development staff, allowing you to create authentic courses. You can experience what it's like to be a game developer to your heart's content.

F-Zero Climax
An evocative description of the mood just before the race and tongue-in-cheek warning of the GBA's technical prowess is written on the back packaging. I remember getting this at launch and being wowed that they made the 3D effect more convincing than the SNES.

Four Player Versus Mode with One Cartridge!

Back:
The world of the Super High-Speed Race...accelerates on the Advance!

Your breathing lowers, the will concentrates, you're lined up at the starting line. For a short while, it's as if the sound of revving engines have been ripped away and all is silent. The beat of your heart throbs, tension heads towards it's peak, and together with the signal of GO...unable to feel gravity within your machine, it roars off in a tremendous dash. The goal: simply to win. My pride is on the line...

Actualized on the Game Boy Advance, a real sense of immersion. You may even forget that this is a portable gaming device, and mistake the screen for your helmet shield! This is...F-ZERO for Gameboy Advance!

- The white hot, cut throat battle mode
* With multiple people using a cartridge, they can enjoy the white hot, cut throat battle mode!
* You can even battle with a single cartridge! While the courses and machines are limited, you can still experience the world of F-Zero!

F-Zero GX
Developed by Sega, GX is considered the crown jewel of the series to this day. I remember renting this and being overwhelmed by the difficulty and sense of speed, but having an incredible time nonetheless.

Speeds of over 2000KM! Experience an unknown world of thrills.

The race between 30 machines unfolds on the circuit in a heated battle. A gift for the speed junkies: the latest in the F-Zero series.

An abundance of game modes!

Customize original machines and challenge them to a race! - Raise the curtain and experience an extreme, 30 man race! - Battle with up to 4 people!
With the series' first story mode, customization modes and more...play through the lot of them until exhaustion!

F -Zero GP Legend / Falcon Legend
F-Zero's usual western art style gets a major anime refresh to accompany the 51 episode TV series. This game uses the clunky and pricey e-card accessory to add extra content. Post mainstream internet-era DLC isn't so bad in comparison...

F -Zero Climax
The (thus far) final F-Zero game released exclusively in Japan. The top line was almost predicting the future: "All the elements of the F-Zero series, have reached their limit here," as the only thing we've seen from the series since then is the recent F-Zero 99 NSO app, which is debatably not a 'new' game. Besides the name itself, the boxes' text contains several bizarre sexual innuendos that I couldn't even manage to tone down in the translation.
