Star #1 - 怒りのバッタンキング > いかりのバッタンキング > The Angry Whomp King
This is titled "Chip Off Whomp's Block" in the American version. Whenever fighting him, I was so enamored with the zoomed out camera angle and sense of height to be bothered much by his blurry, appropriately wet cement-like texture. This phrase is once again fairly simple, but uses the の particle in a new and important way.
1. 怒り > いかり > Ikari ＞ Anger/Rage "WHOMP"
This Kanji combines slave (奴) and feelings (心) to produce anger. Both the kanji and it's reading may seem familiar to Neo Geo fans, as the 怒 kanji appears above the "Rage Meter" in Samurai Spirits/Shodown. Incidentally, "Ikari Warriors" is one of SNK's oldest properties.
2. の > No > Denotes Apposition
Here, the の acts to not merely describe, but identify the Whomp King as angry. There was no mistake made here, as the Whomp King was just as angry when reappearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2 15 years later.
3. バッタンキング > Battankingu > "WHOMP" King
Exactly as in the previous lesson, "WHOMP King" is spelled out as Ba-tta-n Ki-n-gu in Katakana.
