Contra: The Alien Wars / Contra Spirits (Super Famicom) (2.28.92)
As with Mario, Zelda and Castlevania, the third time was the charm for Konami and their Contra series. Ratcheting up the action far beyond what was possible on the NES, the Alien Wars is widely considered the best game in the series.

A storm of bullets sweeps over the devasted city.
The last battle...was merely a prelude.
Even with humanity having claimed victory after repeated alien attacks, an unprecedented terror has now commenced. It's an overwhelming combative and scientific power. And of course, a life form that contains an obviously alien power.
Appearing all over, the might of the aliens has been overwhelming. However, in the middle of the city covered in despair, the 'Contra' have once again stood up. They are here for humanity to once again take back the land into their own hands!
