Star #6 - 大砲で打っ壊せ！ > たいほうでぶっこわせ > Taihou de bukkowase! > Bust through with the cannon!
This stage was officially titled "Blast Away the Wall" in North America. Even worse than the stress of scaling the clock tower, intentionally hurling Mario into the wall is probably the most painful moment of the game. Most of this phrase has already been covered in previous stages, but an important new kanji is introduced.
1. 大砲で > たいほうで > Taihou de > With the cannon
Just as used in Star 2-3, で is used with cannon 大砲 (たいほう/Taihou) to denote that it is the means of doing something. I'm sure Mario wished some bomb-ombs were handy to throw at the wall, rather than himself.
2. 打っ壊せ > ぶっこわせ > Bukkowase > Bust through
As seen in Star 1-3, 打 is hit and っ serves to connect the following kanji and sound. This time the kanji is destroy: 壊. The 土 on the left means earth, but the etymology of the character on the right is very unclear. One more part: ending a verb with せ (se) gives it the imperative form. Quite necessary in this case, as you're being encouraged to make a cannon ball out of Mario!
