Tekken Series Japanese Packaging Translations (1995-2002)

Tekken (3.31.95)

It's wonderful how the impossibly advanced pre-renders of the mid-90s have been topped in real time some two (and a half) decades later. Props to Namco for never completely giving up on so many rather ridiculous character designs.

The iron first roars! The fighting spirit burns!

Motivated by riches, fame, schemes and revenge...8 martial artists challenge themselves in a grand tournament, enveloping themselves in a whirlpool of death. In textured 3D space, the fighters' lively techniques are on full display within highly perilous battles...appearing on the PlayStation.

Tekken 2 (3.29.96)

Funny how the characters on the front cover look rather mannequin-like, when back in 1996 this degree of realism in 3D modeling was amazing. I chose to get a copy of Soul Blade with my PS1 in 1997, but Tekken 2 was featured in the demo disk. Fun times watching the intro movie over and over...but Soul Blade's was even better!

Further polish up your techniques...Those with the strongest fist (The Iron Fist) have appeared once again...

(Heihachi caption) Dad has been resurrected!?)

Tekken 3 (3.26.98)

The third generation of the Mishama family, Jin, takes over the cover for Tekken 3. Viewing this always bring back memories of when Tekken 3 was by far the hottest import for PS1 owners, particularly since other big hits like Metal Gear Solid and the Final Fantasy series required a command of the Japanese language to enjoy.

Spine Card:
The fight is not over. 19 years have passed. Now, the curtain of a new battle opens...

Back:
This fight is not over.
19 years have passed since the previous tournament...
In connection with a mysterious life form, 'The God of Fighting,' There have been multiple incidents of fighters disappearing from around the world. Heihachi, convinced that 'The God of Fighting' was after the 'strong souls' of the fighters, has decided to hold "The king of iron fist tournament 3" in order to lure him.

This time, in addition to a perfect arcade to home port, various original modes for the home version have been added, plus the time released characters and plenty of beautiful ending movies. The burning fight is not over!

Tekken Tag Tournament (PlayStation 2) (3.30.00)

The cold, sterile portrait of Kazuya Mishima is a wonderful example of the PlayStation 2's 'digital apocalypse aesthetic.' I wasn't a huge Tekken fan during the PS1 days, but played tons of TTT in arcades and on the PS2 just to listen to the incredible soundtrack. Even while rooting heavily for the Dreamcast, also I couldn't help but be dazzled by how smooth and colorful the graphics were.

Once again, the time has come to awaken the fighting instinct. The latest from the Tekken series, Tekken Tag Tournament, has finally arrived on the PlayStation 2! Characters from the series, old and new, have gathered to play out a dream performance! Far surpassing the quality seen in the arcades, don't miss out on this!

Tekken Advance (12.21.01)

Similar to Tony Hawk and Jet Grind Radio, after how heated the previous generations' console wars were, Tekken was not only a surprise to see on the Game Boy Advance, but it was quite well received despite the substantial technical limitations.

Appearing on the Game Boy Advance, Tekken has become [Tekken Advance]!!

The special traits of the Tekken series up until now: 10 hit combos, air combos, axis movement and more have been recreated! Furthermore, there's a 3 on 3 Tag Battle and a special linked versus mode along with more enhancements! Familiar characters are on the rampage...on the Advance!

The fuse for the fight, has now been lit...

Tekken 4 (3.28.02)

The black sheep of the series, the stark changes in everything from the core gameplay mechanics to the roster were initially met with strong backlash and reversed in subsequent games. However, Tekken 4's unique sense of style has earned appreciation with age.

2 years have passed since the previous tournament. A new, legendary fight begins...

The latest game in the Tekken series, Tekken 4, debuts on the PlayStation 2, with graphics and sound equal to the arcade! New characters have been added to further unfold a heated battle! Who will snag the victory!?

Not seen until now in Tekken, this time, unlimited fields have been discontinued for the introduction of 'terrain'. You can corner your opponent and knock them against the wall! If you're just using the same fighting methods as before, it may now be difficult to get the win!

Included gameplay modes: Central to the story mode, each character has an ending movie. There's also a practice mode, training mode, and single players can enjoy TEKKEN FORCE mode. Fun for beginnings to advanced players, Tekken 4 is full of content available only from your home!!
